Corporation’s staff and workers in industrial cities donated blood as part of ZonesCorp social responsibility
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: In line with its corporate social responsibility, the Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones, ZonesCorp, organized a blood donation campaign on April 11-12, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Blood Bank which provided donors with a fully-equipped bus to collect their blood. A large number of employees from ZonesCorp and other workers from the factories located in the corporation’s industrial cities donated blood to contribute to saving lives of patients in need.
ZonesCorp participation in this humanitarian campaign aligns with its efforts to interact with society and extend hands to help thousands of patients and road accident victims whose lives could be dependent on a few drops of blood. Donors from ZonesCorp and its related industrial enterprises rushed to the corporation’s premises and donated blood motivated by their human obligation to help those in need.
Commenting on the event, HE Mohammed Hassan Al Qamzi, Chief Executive Officer of ZonesCorp, said: “The blood donation campaign, organized by the corporation for the third time, is part of our corporate social commitment and responsibility towards society stressing the humanitarian aspects of our staff to help save lives of patients who are in need for their blood.”
Al Qamzi highlighted ZonesCorp interest in responding to all kinds of social initiatives and obligations. He noted that the blood donation campaign is just a part of the leading role played by ZonesCorp in ensuring a better life for the community in Abu Dhabi.
A group of doctors and medical technicians inside the blood bank bus helped collecting units of blood donated by the employees who were medically examined before the blood donation started.
Dr. Ahmad Al Emam, Blood Diseases Specialist from Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, pointed out that Abu Dhabi blood bank collects over 15,000 blood units of different groups every year. Each unit of blood helps save the lives of 3 patients who undergo surgical operations, or those who suffer from Leukemia, Thalassemia, Haemophilia, road victims, fire burn victims and cancer patients.
“As people are getting more busy and don’t have enough time to go to hospitals to donate their blood, it became our social commitment as a blood bank to reach people at their working places and collect their blood to help save lives of patients. This reflects the continuous partnership between the blood bank and the government and private establishments in Abu Dhabi,” said Dr. Al Emam.
He pointed out that a blood donor could compensate the quantities of blood he donated within 24 hours. No diseases could be transferred to the donors simply because the tools used by the blood bank are clean and sterilized.
“Blood pressure, weight and temperature of the donors are usually checked before donation. The blood collected is also examined to make sure it is clean and not affected with any contagious diseases such as Aids, Hepatitis, Syphilis and others,” the doctor said.
