In recognition of Dubai’s role as an international trading hub and Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry as a leading Chamber in the region, HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber has been selected for the coveted post of Vice Chairman of the World Chambers Federation (WCF), the International Chamber of Commerce’s department responsible for chambers of commerce affairs for a three-year mandate from January, 2010 to December, 2013.

The appointment came during the recent Executive Board meeting of ICC held in New Delhi as part of the 90th anniversary celebrations of the world business organization confirming the decision made by WCF General Council in New York last October of reelecting Rona Yircali, Vice-President of the Federation of Chambers of Turkish World Trade, for a third term as Chair and Peter Mihok as Deputy Chair.

Buamim accredited the honor to Dubai’s growing profile on the international arena which he said has further reinforced the Emirate’s status of a sound investment destination through this recognition: “I am extremely happy with this new appointment as it will lend impetus to Dubai Chamber and support its mission of representing, supporting and protecting the interests of the business community besides promoting Dubai as a gateway and role model to the Middle East and an international business hub of repute.”

Added Buamim, “This acknowledgement of Dubai Chamber also reflects the status the UAE occupies in the region’s economic scene and the great trust Dubai enjoys as a strategic business destination while this honor also reflects on the wise leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

Said Yona Yircali, WCF Chairman, “I am honored to be elected as the Chairman of the World Chambers Federation for a new term. We believe that regional cooperation is very important and the Middle East consists of nations both developed and developing. Vice Chairman Hamad Buamim will be mainly responsible for the cooperation among chambers in this region as well as contributing to the overall policies of WCF.”

Dubai Chamber caters to over 100,000 members coming from over 168 countries of the world and has launched various initiatives including the Exporter of the Quarter, Monthly Surveys of Business Leaders, Dubai Business Gala and launched the Arabic guidelines of the Certificates of Origin. It was recently chosen as the Customs guarantor for the ATA Carnet System in the region.
